Diabetic Foot Care

People diagnosed with diabetes can develop foot complications including loss of sensation in the feet. This can result in damage that you may be unaware of, eg. standing on a sharp object or a toenail digging in.

How we can help

Keep your feet protected and monitor them daily for damage, especially if you have peripheral neuropathy (numb feet).

Have hard skin and corn treated promptly to avoid ulceration in these high pressure areas.

People with diabetes should have annual diabetic foot assessments to monitor any loss of sensation and check the circulation.

Diabetes can also affect the blood supply to the feet, causing a delay in the healing of any wound and increasing the risk of infection. The circulation to the feet is also checked during a diabetic foot assessment. Where peripheral arterial disease is suspected, our podiatrists can additionally carry out a full vascular assessment.
Small problems can become big problems very quickly in diabetes, so it is important to see your podiatrist as soon as problem arise to keep trouble at bay.
