Neuropathy
Neuropathy refers to damage or dysfunction of the nerves, often resulting in reduced or altered sensation in the feet. It is commonly associated with diabetes but may also result from other medical conditions or other systemic causes such as some vitamin deficiency, chemotherapy, or alcohol misuse. Symptoms may include numbness, tingling, burning, or a loss of awareness of injury. Loss of protective sensation can increase the risk of ulcers or infection.
How we can help
We will carry out a thorough neurological assessment to determine the type and extent of nerve damage. This may include sensory tests using tuning forks, monofilaments and temperature probes. Based on the findings, we will provide advice on protecting your feet, including footwear recommendations, daily checks and self-care routines. We will also ensure regular monitoring and communicate with your GP where appropriate.
