Ulcers/Wound Care

A wound or ulcer can occur when the skin is damaged and can take some time to heal. Healing needs to occur from the base of the wound and any dead skin or overlying callus needs to be removed to maintain drainage and help this to happen. The affected area will need to be kept clean. We will usually use padding or insoles to keep the pressure off the area and aid healing.

Poor peripheral circulation can be a factor in delaying wound healing and also increases the risk of infection. Wounds occurring on diabetic feet can deteriorate quickly. If you have diabetes and your wound is not healing, or we have any concerns, we will refer you to the Diabetic Foot Clinic.
