Deformed Nails
Toenails may become deformed following trauma, infection, pressure from footwear or systemic conditions. Changes may include thickening, discolouration, lifting, curving or splitting of the nail plate. These changes can affect appearance and comfort, and may lead to secondary problems such as pressure sores or ingrowing nails. It is important to identify the cause and provide the appropriate treatment to prevent further complications.
How we can help
We will assess your nails to understand the underlying cause of the deformity. Where possible, we will reduce the thickness, trim and reshape the nail to relieve pressure. If the nail is painful or cosmetically concerning, Wilde-Pedique® reconstruction may be used to restore a natural appearance. In cases where the nail cannot be saved, nail surgery may be discussed as a longer-term solution.
