Fungal Toenails
Fungal infections of the toenail are common and often start after a bout of Athlete’s foot. They can cause the nail to become thick, brittle, discoloured and sometimes misshapen. Infections can be difficult to treat, particularly if they reach the nail bed, and may persist for years without the right care.
Fungal nails are not just a cosmetic concern – they can cause discomfort in footwear and may spread if left untreated. Other nail conditions may resemble a fungal infection, so it’s important to get a proper diagnosis before starting treatment.
How we can help
We can quickly and accurately confirm whether your nail condition is fungal using in-clinic testing. We’ll also check for any associated skin infections that could cause re-infection if left untreated.
Treatment options include oral antifungal medication, topical treatments, or PACT® light therapy. We’ll help you choose the most appropriate route depending on the severity and your overall health. Regular thinning of the nail plate may also be required to improve treatment success.
