Gait Issues

Gait refers to the way you walk. If your gait is abnormal, this can lead to pain or discomfort in your feet, knees, hips or lower back. Gait problems may be caused by structural or functional issues in the feet and legs, or may result from injury, illness or poor footwear.

Computerised gait analysis (CGA) uses pressure and timing data to assess how your feet function when walking or running. It is useful in diagnosing foot and lower limb problems and monitoring how well a treatment plan is working. A full biomechanical assessment, which may include CGA, provides additional information and enables us to prescribe customised foot orthoses where necessary.

Gait abnormalities can be subtle but may have a significant effect over time. Identifying and addressing these issues early can prevent further problems.

How we can help

We offer both computerised gait analysis and full biomechanical assessments. These enable us to accurately diagnose any issues with the way you walk or run. If your pain is related to abnormal foot function, we may prescribe orthoses and provide an exercise programme to support your recovery.

We use scans or casts to design orthoses tailored to your feet. Where appropriate, we can combine this with other treatment methods such as strapping, laser therapy or footwear advice to improve your comfort and mobility.
