Heel Pain
There are several conditions that can cause heel pain, including plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and nerve compression. Heel pain is particularly common in runners, those who are on their feet for long periods, or those with foot alignment issues. In children, a common cause is Severs disease, which is linked to growth spurts.
Pain is often worse in the morning or after periods of rest. It may feel sharp, aching or bruised and can severely limit your daily activities. Getting the right diagnosis is key, as different conditions require different approaches to treatment.
How we can help
Your podiatrist will start with a thorough assessment to identify the exact cause of your heel pain. Once we’ve made an accurate diagnosis, we will discuss the best treatment options with you.
Depending on the condition, this might include strapping, a stretching and strengthening programme, orthoses, or footwear advice. In persistent or severe cases, low level laser therapy, shockwave therapy or steroid injections may be recommended to reduce pain and inflammation.
